Winter Weather Approaches

It feels like snow today! We have the hope of a little of the white stuff tonight. I went by the school and fed the fish, just in case.  I'm making my grocery list (in my head) so IF we get snowed in we'll have lots of winter comfort food. Not necessarily healthy, but it will be comforting.

The first bird picture above is my favorite bird, a Nut Hatch. I think they are so adorable. They are usually standing face toward the ground, but wouldn't you know, this one isn't. This is the first year they have frequently visited my bird feeders.  Usually I only see them coming down a tree. I do not have a fancy camera and so am not able to get a decent picture. Same thing with the Red Bellied Woodpecker, they don't stand still for long so it's hard to get a shot.

The first picture is looking out the back of my house. Storms often come from this direction and I think they are so pretty, viewed through the trees.   I was all giddy, waiting on the stormy weather. Didn't get a drop...major bummer around here! Now it looks like snow clouds.  I don't really know what snow clouds look like, but I'm pretty sure that's them out there. If I say it enough, and think it enough, well then, it's just gotta be!

Hope you're having a great Sunday! Here's to a snowy post tomorrow!!!

    1. My mom was so nature centered! I did not know that about your Dad, although I should have with his love of camping! I have always appreciated that Mom shared nature with me. She did with my kids too. When they would spend the night she would always take them to the lake to see what was happening! It's a wonderful memory they have!

  4. Hello Leslie girl and thank you so much for all those compliments ! I will have a hard time getting my head through the door pretty soon! haha
We have a winter storm warning .. freezing ice type thing again and we don't have comfort food in the house darn it !! haha I am trying to cut down and get some exercise to get in some sort of shape for working in the garden .. BIG sigh !
I love that first shot through the trees .. they are amazing and it must be fantastic to see the weather circulate through them !
The birds are too sweet .. we don't feed them in the winter .. so many people do in the neighborhood though.
I can't figure out if you are Canadian or American ? we have Pikes for landscaping material .. different stones and mulch sort of thing.
I'm sorry you don't have a decent garden center or nursery .. have you tried mail order nurseries ? if you are in Canada there are a few good ones I use .. let me know ?

    1. Joy, I'm a l-o-n-g way from you, but real close to Florida! I'm in Georgia, USA. Southeast USA. The only thing I don't like about mail orders is that the size plant you get is so small, but it looks like I should do it anyway. I might try some this year.

    2. Hi again Leslie (I'm late checking back .. more reno timings to sort out, I'll be SO glad when this is over and done!) .. so you are in Georgia ! .. my son married an American gal and they are in South Carolina funny enough.
I understand your hesitancy with the small plant size from mail order companies .. a good way to judge them is reading customer feed back, that may help.
I am very lucky to have a great supplier in Ontario .. BIG plants, for the types I can't find at our garden centers here. But I really have to slow down now .. space is disappearing and I don't want it all to turn into a mass jumble of plants swallowing the garden design up.
Hey .. you are doing a great job girl .. so keep going with your instinct !
      Joy : )

  5. Did you get any snow? I'd love to have some here, but it rarely happens. Meanwhile, so much of the midwest and northeast are under severe weather watches.
    Stay warm!

    1. Lorrie, not a flake! And here I sit, not going to work! I'll have to make the time up, but that's okay. It's been a great day. Tomorrow will be so cold that I'm sure that's why they closed the schools. Often kids in the South don't even have coats! Can't have them out catching the bus in 7 degree weather. Plus the buses probably won't start.
