THERE'S A FUNGUS AMONG US

I love fungus.  At least, I love this kind of fungus. I think it's so pretty. I happened upon this stick with these beautiful growths on a recent walk through the woods.  I think it looks very pretty with the brown hydrangea and brown leaves. I don't mind at all my garden going to sleep, because I find such joy in the things of darker days.  How do you feel about the passing of Summer? I love this poem by Robert Frost. I always read it in Autumn.

My November Guest (By Robert Frost)
My Sorrow, when she's here with me,
  Thinks these dark days of autumn rain
Are beautiful as days can be;
She loves the bare, the withered tree;
  She walks the sodden pasture lane.

Her pleasure will not let me stay.

  She talks and I am fain to list:

She's glad the birds are gone away,

She's glad her simple worsted gray
  Is silver now with clinging mist.

The desolate, deserted trees,

  The faded earth, the heavy sky,

The beauties she so truly sees,

She thinks I have no eye for these,
  And vexes me for reason why.

Not yesterday I learned to know
  The love of bare November days

Before the coming of the snow,

But it were vain to tell her so,

  And they are better for her praise
(I don't know why when I post this the spacing is all off, sorry!).
I'm joining Mosaic Monday and Outdoor Wednesday this week.
I hope you're having a lovely Monday, thanks for stopping by!

  5. Great photos. I laughed when read "a fungus among us". Have not heard that expression in a long time. Use to have some strange orange fungi growing out by the sidewalk, but did not see it this year.
    I won't miss the hot/humid temps, but not looking forward to the bitter cold of Winter either.
    Thanks for stopping by.
    Have a great week.

  12. Very nice images today! Shitake mushrooms grow on dead wood! The poem can sound depressing if one is in that state of mind..I am trying to change my attitude about Nov. as I live for the Spring season of "new beginnings"! Nov. for me is soup and cozy up time..cetainly so today with "Sandy" fiercly raging about my world!

  15. I enjoy the Autumn colours, but once they are touching earth and there no longer is a canopy of leaf cover. so long as the sun shine, I do well.. I get very sad on gray days...we had one today...
