TODAY'S MUSINGS

Not much happening this weekend. We drove to Home Depot, but realized it was Saturday afternoon and decided it was going to be too crowded, so we turned around and headed back home. We'll go Monday instead.  I really don't like crowds. Don grilled us some salmon for dinner and it was delish. He is the grill master, but he's passing the torch to our son, who loves cooking. What a lucky mother I am.

This is our dog Arie. She is laying on her favorite piece of furniture, but she's too big for it so she lays with her head hanging off. If I laid like that my eyeballs would be popping out, but apparently her big ol head can take all that extra blood.

Our temperatures have cooled off. This morning the low is in the 30's. Our high is expected to be in the 50's. A far cry from our highs in the 70's. Still, I kind of like this on again/off again weather. I think we might get some rain late in the week. That always makes me happy!

This little setting is on my dear mother's singer sewing machine base. I gave it to her for one of her birthdays - found it at an antique flea market. It has a nice slab of marble on top.

I'll be heading out to church soon. I teach a 1st grade class then go to hear the message. I love my church and find the messages interesting, but I have the hardest time sitting for an hour and ten minutes. It's pure torture for me to be still that long. What's a girl to do?

I hope you have a great week. Thanks for stopping by

  1. Arie looks to be a sweetheart, hang down and everything. My grandmother used a treadle machine to make clothes for so very many of her off spring, including me. I loved to open the tiny drawers.

  2. Oh do I love salmon and even better when it is cooked for me. You are lucky to have two chefs. My son in law is quite the cook too. My hubby
is my sous chef. Loves to dice and slice and stir.

    1. Salmon tastes better when someone else cooks it (like most things do). I'm teaching my son all my favorite recipes:)

  4. You are blessed to have 2 grillers! I think you're smart to go to the store on Monday. I'm not a fan of crowds either.
    Your flowers look very cheerful!

  5. It's nice when you can turn around on a weekend and come back early in the week. That's a great part of my semi-retirement. I love that sewing machine base; it's a great memory to have in your yard.

    1. I am so happy to have mom's sewing machine base. I have admired it for years. I think of her every time I see it.

  6. The sewing machine stand with the bright flowers on it is wonderful! So unique and gorgeous! Well, now what kind of seating does your church have? I hope not hard wood pews. They can actually be painful to sit on for too long. How funny about Arie! Maybe she thinks she is still small! Is she a black lab?

    1. I must admit, the seats at church are pretty comfortable, so that's not the problem! I made it through without too much trouble today. Yes, Arie is a black lab. She's a sweerheart.

  8. It seems to be harder and harder to avoid crowds in stores. People must have money to spend. In general we avoid big box stores like the plague!

    1. One of the reasons I love retirement is that I can do things during the week and avoid shopping on the weekend. Have a great week.

  9. I actually learned to sew on a treadle machine. Your posies against the bare trees and blue sky, look very spring-like. Anything cooked by someone else always tastes better!

  10. What a clever idea to turn the sewing machine base into a productive and attractive table. I like that and will mention to a friend who has one she wasn't sure what to do with! And Arie has it made!

    1. I love that mom turned it into a little table. She always had it indoors so I worry a little about the base getting rust. I guess I should take care of that. I hope you have a great week.

  13. Sweet photo of Arie. She looks very similar to our Bridgette. Bridgette was part black lab and part dalmation and we still miss her. I love your potted tulips and daffodils, especially being on the old sewing machine stand with its marble top. My grandmother had one and I can still remember her sitting at it doing that see-saw motion as she sowed. How lovely that your husband and son enjoy cooking. Mine do too and by all reports my daughter-in-law says our son is a good cook. Depending on who gets home first is the chef for that evening. Have a great week Leslie!

    1. Arie is such a sweet girl, but boy does she have a stubborn streak! My daffodils are dying out now, I'm so sad. Their bright yellow made my day. I can still see my grandma using a treadle sewing machine, I thought it was so cool. Have a great week.

  15. Arie is a sweet, but stubborn dog. She won't even look at you when you call her name. Spring has sprung here in Georgia. Our daffodils are pretty much done, now hyacinths are taking center stage. Next up will be Virginia Blue Bells. Have a great week.

  16. Love the yellow! It's funny how pups lay. They do all these things that look uncomfortable but there they are, in snoozeland. Happily.
