I did it! I got out of my chair and into my car for a trip to Hobby Lobby to buy a crochet hook and some yarn. The yarn I bought is a beautiful, soft cream colored yarn. It's really lovely and feels so good. It was a slow start learning to do the bauble, but I finally got the hang of it and before I knew it, I had quite a bit done. I draped it across the tree just to get a feeling for how it will look next year and I think it will be very pretty. I still have a bunch to do, but it does go quickly.
Tomorrow I have to go to the Social Security office and take a copy of my marriage certificate. There is just so much to do when a spouse dies. I think I'm doing ok in that area. I've been dealing with SS for some time now and this is the first time they asked for the marriage certificate. I'm beginning to wonder if the right hand knows what the left hand is doing.
I still have a bit of shopping to do. I probably will not get to it until next week. I really don't want to shop on the weekend.
I hope you're having a great week. Thanks for stopping by.

You're doing great! It will look so good on your tree.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it seem crazy that you have to bring the marriage license in, when it's the government you need to get a copy of it from if you need one? Seems they could see it in their online files.
It does seem crazy for the government to be asking me for the marriage certificate!
DeleteYour tree is gorgeous. I hope you are going to leave the garland on it. And what a cool looking crochet hook you found!
ReplyDeleteThank You, Ginny. I think I will leave it on. I found that hook at Hobby Lobby. I thought it was cool, too!
DeleteLooks pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Deletegood luck with your crocheting project. i know how to crochet but much prefer knitting. i like your fancy crochet....your christmas tree is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteIt's coming along, it goes really fast. I don't know how to knit, but it's a craft I'd love to learn.
Deleteshould have said "your fancy crochet hook"!!
DeleteI just love your crocheted bauble garland. (Is that right -- it will drape on your tree like a garland? That's brilliant!). It will be beautiful. I'm sorry you have to take time this week to go to the SS office. Timing is everything and this isn't the best. But it will all come to place, the shopping, the holiday. Meanwhile, keep working on that crochet project!
ReplyDeleteIt took me about 2 hours to get to see someone. And then she told me they were also asking for my birth certificate! No body has told me that. I really do think the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing!
DeleteI like your garland - very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLeslie, first I offer you my sincerest condolences. I had not seen your post for a long time and did know realize you have lost your husband. I see you are busy decorating for Christmas and you have such lovely ornaments and such. We only have Precious' tree this year. I have been crocheting this fall and winter too. Take care, Lynn and Precious
ReplyDeleteThank you for your condolences. We all miss him terribly. We have kept busy this holiday season. This is my first crochet project. I can't wait to learn more.
DeleteThat's a clever Idea! And your tree, wow. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sue! I've really enjoyed the tree this year.
DeleteA first crochet project? Impressive. I've been crocheting for around 55 years and I have never made a garland. Nor have I seen a crochet hook with a handle like that - tie dye like. It's pretty. Also I was not aware, as a relatively new reader of your blog, that you had lost your husband. I am so sorry - please accept my belated condolences.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your condolences. We miss him but are trying to make the best of the holidays. I love the crochet hook. I found it at Hobby Lobby. I hope you have a great weekend. Merry Christmas
DeleteWhenever I see something as pretty as this, it makes me want to start learning how to crochet. Someone keeps telling me it's never too late to learn :) It looks lovely on your tree, which looks gorgeous with all those pretty ornaments. I also did not know of your husband's passing Leslie and also offer my heartfelt sympathy.
ReplyDeleteThe new garland looks great! You’re doing an amazing job navigating everything right now. I hope you get a chance to relax and enjoy the 'groovin' part of your week!
ReplyDeleteI hope to be "groovin" this weekend!
DeleteReally well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenn.
DeleteI am so sorry for the loss of your husband. Dealing with all the details can be very tedious and stressful, practically a part time job in itself.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth. First they tell me they need the death certificate, then later they tell me they need the marriage certificate now they are telling me they need my birth certificate. Couldn't they have requested it all at the same time?
DeleteHope you're ready for a Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI am! Merry Christmas wishes to you!
DeleteDoes seem crazy, I agree with Mari. Also, very sorry that your husband passed. I feel like saying sorry really doesn't share enough but it's the only word I know. I love that you got out of the chair and to Hobby Lobby. Of allthe lobbys, that's my fave.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your condolences. I love Hobby Lobby too. So many pretty things to look at and drool over!
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your spouse. My husband passed away 5 years ago. You have my condolences.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your condolences. I can't believe it's been over a month now. Seems so strange for him to not be around. He loved Christmas. Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
