I think he is so cute. He gets his name because of his little ear-like fins that flap and makes him look like Disney's Dumbo.
From Wikipedia: Genus Grimpoteuthis, they are assumed to have a worldwide distribution living in the cold, abyssal depths ranging from 1,000-7,000 meters (3,300-23,000 ft). They eat crustaceans, bi-valves, worms and copepods. Dumbos grow from 7 inches to 12 inches. They have a life span of 3-5 years.
If you want, you can go HERE to see a little video of a Dumbo Octopus. He is so cute when he uncurls his legs.
I hope you're having a great weekend. Thanks for dropping by. Take care.
He is cute. He looks a bit like a yellow rubber duck, lol. Glad you shared
ReplyDeletethis. New creatures to learn about. Have a great Sunday. We are iced in.
I keep picturing you skating out to the mail box, lol. He does look a little like a duck! Have a great Sunday. Stay warm, and upright. lol.

ReplyDeleteI've heard that too. They can get themself out of a jar with the lid screwed on. Have a great day.
DeleteWe've never seen such a thing! What an adorable little sea creature. We had to check out the video to watch the little guy flap and wave.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you checked out the video. I loved when he waved his little legs. Have a great week.
DeleteOhhhh Saturday's eye candy was beautiful....love the lavenders.
ReplyDeleteOur daffodils have broken thru the ground not yet opened.

Cecilia Thank you for your kind comment about Saturday's post. I love lavenders, too. I might have some daffodils in bloom soon. I hope so! Have a great week. Take care.

DeleteThat's a cute little creature, especially when it moves!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you looked at the video. I love the way it moves it's legs. The little wave it produces. So, so cute. Have a great week. Take care.
DeleteO my gosh, so adorable! He has made my day! I have been watching a T.V. show about octopuses. They are so smart, can change colors at will, and even solve puzzles. Looks like this one has his tentacles tucked under him, much like a cat will tuck his paws under him!
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence that you are watching a tv show about octopuses (octopi?) I just love the dumbo octopus. I don't think he changes colors, nor does he have ink. Have a great weekend. Take care. Are you having summer like temperatures or are you getting that winter weather hitting the northeast?
DeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the back story!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great week. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWow, it is a cute octopus! Take care, have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI agree! So darn cute. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.
DeleteVery cute indeed! Sy Montgomery has written extensively about octopuses and you’d probably enjoy what she wrote. They are sensitive creatures that can bond to humans and recognize individuals. And they don’t live long!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look up Sy Montgomery. I am facinated with this octopus, it's so different. Have a great week.
