A CUTIE PIE

Since my last nature post did not endear many people to the assassin bug, I thought I would post something that I am absolutely sure you will love! You've probably heard of this adorable octopus before. I think it is just the cutest thing. It is the Dumbo Octopus.

I think he is so cute. He gets his name because of his little ear-like fins that flap and makes him look like Disney's Dumbo.

From Wikipedia:  Genus Grimpoteuthis, they are assumed to have a worldwide distribution living in the cold, abyssal depths ranging from 1,000-7,000 meters (3,300-23,000 ft). They eat crustaceans, bi-valves, worms and copepods. Dumbos grow from 7 inches to 12 inches. They have a life span of 3-5 years.

If you want, you can go HERE to see a little video of a Dumbo Octopus. He is so cute when he uncurls his legs.

I hope you're having a great weekend. Thanks for dropping by. Take care.

  8. O my gosh, so adorable! He has made my day! I have been watching a T.V. show about octopuses. They are so smart, can change colors at will, and even solve puzzles. Looks like this one has his tentacles tucked under him, much like a cat will tuck his paws under him!

    1. What a coincidence that you are watching a tv show about octopuses (octopi?) I just love the dumbo octopus. I don't think he changes colors, nor does he have ink. Have a great weekend. Take care. Are you having summer like temperatures or are you getting that winter weather hitting the northeast?

  12. Very cute indeed! Sy Montgomery has written extensively about octopuses and you’d probably enjoy what she wrote. They are sensitive creatures that can bond to humans and recognize individuals. And they don’t live long!
