Hellooooooo! I've been away for a bit. So happy to be back. Cant wait to see what everyone has been up to. Don and I celebrated our 40th anniversary by taking a train to New Orleans. A lovely 12 hour trip. Train travel is really the only way to go! I just love the rocking and vibration of the train. 12 hours may seem like a long time, but I'm so enchanted with the train I don't mind. I had a game to play and plenty of snacks. They feed you 3 meals, which is included for those in a roomette, which we were. This was our third trip by train. Before covid, the meals were really good, prepared right there. I had a delicious steak on our first trip. Now they serve preprepared meals which leave a lot to be desired.
This is before our train arrived at the station. A huge freight train came barreling through.
Along the way I spotted some beautiful cloud formations. I'm going to include this on Skywatch.
A good getaway is always a great idea and New Orleans looks like a fun spot to visit. (Though I'm with you on the steak dinner!) Happy Early Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is an interesting city. Lots of cool stories, and wonderful places to visit. And taking the train there is the cherry on top!
DeleteThat's a great way to celebrate your anniversary!
ReplyDeleteWe've never taken a train trip but have thought it would be fun, plus so nice to not have to drive. Now I think I need to look at that again.
You definitely should look into it. Train travel is the best. It is so relaxing. There is no way my husband could have driven a long distance. Give it a try!
DeleteI have wanted to do that! I hope you post more photos and tell us more about your trip!
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend train travel. It's the only way to go. I was so relaxed. I don't have a lot of pictures, but I'll post more soon.
DeleteWhat a lovely way to anticipate your Ruby wedding anniversary.
ReplyDeleteTrain travel is wonderful. It's so nice to just sit back and leave the "driving" to the engineer.
DeleteIt is many years since I travelled by train. I used to do it from Québec City to Toronto. As best I recall the meals were quite good.
ReplyDeleteYes, the meals were very good before covid. That was the only disappointment on our trip.
DeleteI fondly call my husband a Train Brain. He works on 0 scale model trains and has a group of other train brains he meets with each Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteLoved your post.
Hugs Cecilia
That's fantastic! I've never met a train enthusiast. I would love to see his set up!
DeleteOh this looks so great! I have always wanted to do a long travel by train. Short scenic rides are not the same at all. Happy Anniversary and glad you had fun before coming home to storms. Thank goodness they seem to be leaving. We had snow this morn and it'll be 19 tonight. Where is Spring?
ReplyDeleteYou should go on a long train ride! It's just the best. We've had several storms roll through. Thankful for them because they knock the pollen down. We're going to have a bit of a cold spell as soon as the rain moves out.
DeleteThat sounds wonderful! What a great way to celebrate your anniversary. You may have sold me on a long rain ride, especially if you have a roomette. A Very Happy Anniversary for June :)
ReplyDeleteThis was our third trip to New Orleans on the train. The train was my anniversary present - New Orleans was just the destination.
DeleteThe train trip itself sounds almost as much fun as the destination. I have been on one train trip and loved it! You can stretch your legs for one thing.
ReplyDeleteThe train trip was my gift, New Orleans was just the destination!
DeleteTrain trip ~ Wow! ~ looking forward to the photos ~ trains are awesome!
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

ReplyDeleteYOu're right, marriage is the best!
DeleteIt really is. Last night we had date night and hit the cafe. Just so nice to do that.
DeleteGreat way to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a fun trip. A wonderful 40 yr celebration!
DeleteWelcome back! Sounds like a lovely (and adventurous!) anniversary trip.
ReplyDeleteThe train was fantastic. Hope I get to do it again some day.
DeleteCongratulations! Train travel is the best.

DeleteNothing like a train trip even though it has been decades since I have been on one.
ReplyDeleteDon't wait another decade before you take that trip!
