A TRAIN TRIP

Hellooooooo! I've been away for a bit. So happy to be back. Cant wait to see what everyone has been up to. Don and I celebrated our 40th anniversary by taking a train to New Orleans. A lovely 12 hour trip.  Train travel is really the only way to go! I just love the rocking and vibration of the train. 12 hours may seem like a long time, but I'm so enchanted with the train I don't mind. I had a game to play and plenty of snacks. They feed you 3 meals, which is included for those in a roomette, which we were. This was our third trip by train. Before covid, the meals were really good, prepared right there. I had a delicious steak on our first trip. Now they serve preprepared meals which leave a lot to be desired.

This is before our train arrived at the station. A huge freight train came barreling through.

Along the way I spotted some beautiful cloud formations. I'm going to include this on Skywatch.

The view from our room was of the Warehouse District. Not very pretty. The Mississippi is to the left.

The other side of the hotel was Harrah's Casino. It had a much better view. We visited the Casino and it was so huge, with many floors, we got lost. Took us 30 minutes to find our way back out. We broke even in our play. I'm not one for wasting my money in card play or slot machines. It was a wonderful 40th anniversary celebration (our actual anniversary is June 1). Don has promised me a steak dinner since I refused to pay $71.00 for a steak. Just a hamburger was $18.00!

It's good to be back home. The doggies were ecstatic to see us. Such a warm welcome.

I hope you have a great week. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. That's a great way to celebrate your anniversary!
We've never taken a train trip but have thought it would be fun, plus so nice to not have to drive. Now I think I need to look at that again.

    1. You definitely should look into it. Train travel is the best. It is so relaxing. There is no way my husband could have driven a long distance. Give it a try!

    1. Train travel is wonderful. It's so nice to just sit back and leave the "driving" to the engineer.

  5. It is many years since I travelled by train. I used to do it from Québec City to Toronto. As best I recall the meals were quite good.

    1. Yes, the meals were very good before covid. That was the only disappointment on our trip.

  6. I fondly call my husband a Train Brain. He works on 0 scale model trains and has a group of other train brains he meets with each Wednesday.
    Loved your post.

  7. Oh this looks so great! I have always wanted to do a long travel by train. Short scenic rides are not the same at all. Happy Anniversary and glad you had fun before coming home to storms. Thank goodness they seem to be leaving. We had snow this morn and it'll be 19 tonight. Where is Spring?

    1. You should go on a long train ride! It's just the best. We've had several storms roll through. Thankful for them because they knock the pollen down. We're going to have a bit of a cold spell as soon as the rain moves out.

  8. That sounds wonderful! What a great way to celebrate your anniversary. You may have sold me on a long rain ride, especially if you have a roomette. A Very Happy Anniversary for June :)

    1. This was our third trip to New Orleans on the train. The train was my anniversary present - New Orleans was just the destination.

  9. The train trip itself sounds almost as much fun as the destination. I have been on one train trip and loved it! You can stretch your legs for one thing.
