WIP - Crazy Quilt Square

It has been cold, windy and rainy today, but tonight I am snug and warm with my pretty tree and warm fire. I thought I would share a project I've been working on f-o-r-e-v-e-r...and it may take me that much more time to finish.  I'll just share one block tonight.  It's a crazy quilt block with embroidery and beads.

Typically this is what I do during the cold winter months while my garden sleeps.  But I'm slow and my interest moves in and out.  I have 6 blocks completed.  I was thinking of making a 9 X 9 wall hanging.  The stitches used are: french knots, herringbone, straight stitch, oyster stitch, detached chain, fly stitch, bullion, buttonhole, up and down buttonhole, buttonhole wheel, and palestrina stitch. I see that I need to add something on that small purple triangle in the top right corner! Funny what you miss until you upload a picture for the world to see!

Rainy Days

What's with today?  In my office we were all dragging, sleepy but not tired, headachy, even my lunch didn't seem to taste that good!  But we did get some rain. I love rain, but it's probably what caused all our troubles.

It's warm, humid. I wore a sleeveless top to work today. Good grief, it's DECEMBER!  

You can see my sons archery target in the background of this picture.  The table used to be my potting table and I'm thinking of taking it back!  

What's on the "to do" list this spring? Grass planting I hope! We had beautiful grass a few years ago, then came the dog and the drought and my husbands knee replacement surgery.  Oh well, a bag of grass seed might be under the tree this year!

Mosiac Monday

A little mosiac post for today.  I love to bring the Christmas season to my deck.

Shortly after I picked up all the prickly pinecones to use , it rained and they all closed up tight.  I filled the birdbath because the kitty kept leaping for the birds and knocking it over.  This way they are all safe!  Hope you are having a wonderful Monday.  I can see the clouds rolling in, I think rain is coming tonight. A MISHMASH

I got out early this morning (before 8:00) to beat the crowd.  Honestly, people just don't get out of the house any more until after 11:00.  That's great for us morning people!  Take a look at what I found:

Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes.  It's just not Christmas until I bring home the cakes!  As soon as my kids (both in their mid 20's!) saw them they gave a "Whoot".  Also, notice the pretty sparkly silver container.  I got that at Michaels for 50% off!  I have a future icy tablescape I'm planning and I think I'll be using it!

Since this blog is titled Leslie's Garden, I have to get my garden pictures in:

Straight up is a little water feature that is totally filled with sodden leaves, lots of work to do in it to get it ready for Spring Magic.  On the left is a garden that has been neglected over the years.  I think I've got too old knees to be taking care of so many garden spots, I've got to try to turn this little plot into something that takes care of itself, but is still pretty and welcoming.  I'll be working on plans for it during the winter, not that they'll get done in the spring, but one can dream!

FLASHBACK FRIDAY

Oh! Happy, Happy Friday everyone!  I'm so glad it's here.  I'm just relaxing in front of my pretty tree with a glass of diet coke. It's beautiful outside.  We had a frosty start to our morning, but the temperature has risen to a lovely 50's.

A beautiful blue sky, I just love the bare branches against the sky.

Today is Friday and I like to do a little trip down memory lane on Fridays.  Today I'm reminiscing about my favorite comics.  Did you have a favorite comic growing up?  I get a kick out of the TV show The Big Bang Theory and the way they all collect comics.  Of course, they go for the Super Hero comics and I liked the ones that were much less dramatic. My favorite was Little Lulu.  

I think I may have read this very one.  There is something about the artwork in comics from the 50's and 60's that appeals to me.  I especially love beach scenes and snow scenes in comics.  I guess they were simplistic, which suited my simplistic child mind just fine.  Stories never too complicated, no real drama.  

Do you remember this one?  It was a favorite too.  I don't really remember too much about the actual stories, just how much fun I thought they were. I only liked the funny ones.  The Archie comics were fun to read, and I enjoyed the more teenage themes when I got older.

I love remembering these small things that brought joy to the youngster Me.  Thanks for stopping by, hope you are thinking of your favorite comic!

Christmas Tray Tablescape

Is it Friday yet?  One more day?  Okay, I'll hang on! What I really want it to be is Friday at 3:00!

I fixed a little Christmas tray a while back that I thought I would share for Tablescape Thursday.  I really love to do little trays, they're quick and easy and a great way to treat yourself to something special.

I'm using the pretty gold rimmed dishes that I bought myself from Macy's years ago.  A little gold napkin dressing to make it feel special. I made the napkins a couple of years ago.

A hearty breakfast of fried potatoes, yogurt with walnuts, a boiled egg, a piece of toast and coffee and orange juice.  The silver is Rose Point by Wallace.  The little stemmed dessert cup was my grandmothers.

I am participating in Between Naps on the Porch's Tablescape Thursday

How was your day?  We have seasonably cool weather, which I love! It will return to the 60's soon, just in time for the weekend.  It's kind of nice to Christmas shop and not be freezing walking from shop to shop. But today I had no shopping on my mind...only dinner. Because all day, my sweet husband (who is just enjoying his first days of retirement) called to ask cooking questions!  He surprised me with a fantastic dinner.  I wish I had taken pictures when I sat down to eat; alas, I just sat and gobbled! How lucky am I!!  

The tree is up and the temps were right for a little fire and outdoor gazing...not for me, for kitty.

Doozi loves to sit in her chair and bird watch.  She loves the tree and fire.  Doesn't she look queenly sitting on her throne?  She's such a sweet kitty.  

I like the low evening light out the window, and the tree reflected on the pane. I wonder if she notices these things, too.

Pretty Pot

Today was my first day back to work and I was happy to be back and greet the children.  Elementary school around the holidays is a happening place!   I planted a couple of pots for our entrance and they have turned out so pretty.  I enlisted the trusty help of a 4th grader to help me keep them watered and she has done such a fantastic job!

I really love the different textures in this pot.

I wish I could bring the helper to my house to water my pots!  I really hate watering chores!

Creeping Jenny and that little Sedum are really fantastic.  The Asparagus Fern is a nice contrast, along with the big, shiny leaves of the geranium. So sad to know that this will all be gone, but I think it will make it through December.  We usually don't have sustained cold until Janaury.  Hope you're still getting some joy from your garden pots or plants!

My garden is always more beautiful if we've had a cold winter.  Everything is healthier and blooms better, the hydrangeas are prolific after a cold winter!

But I'm not sorrowful.  I just love the autumn and winter and think they're beautiful.  How about you?  

Happy Saturday to you!  It looks like fall outside my window, cloudy skies ,leaf laden ground, bare tree limbs...but the temperature is horribly warm!  Do you like it when it's unseasonably warm?  I need it to get cold. Not arctic cold mind you...just cold enough to be comfortable in a light sweater.  I'm still wearing short sleeve shirts, for goodness sakes!!  I know it's coming, and I'll probably be whining about the cold come January, but that's just kind of how it is here in Georgia.

Friday morning was for relaxing and I made a little Fall breakfast tray for my daughter.

Here are a few pictures of another Thanksgiving table.  It's actually from yesterday, we cooked another turkey and had another meal, just so we could have some leftover turkey for sandwiches! It's more or less using the same elements that I used Thursday.

Here is a picture of the plates that I mentioned needing 2 more of.  I sure hope I'll run across them sometime.

Tonight was for decorating the Christmas tree.  I can't find my tripod and have a horrible time trying to get a clear shot without the flash.  Using the flash makes the tree look so harsh,  hopefully I'll find it soon!

The little wooden nativity was a gift this year from Don.  It was hand carved from an olive tree in Jerusalem.  He's so thoughtful like that, knowing how special it would be to me.

I hope you're well rested and enjoying some turkey sandwiches like we are!
